History of the Institute

The New Millennium Institute is a non-profit school of spiritual studies. It operates as the educational arm of The Church of Perfection, a non-denominational church founded in 1981. The Institute was launched in March 1996. It began with the vision of its founders Susanne and Sandy Sims to use their Frank Lloyd Wright home as a very special place to host spiritual gatherings. This home, an original design by Mr. Wright, offered an experience of sacred architecture and geometry to all who gathered there. This magnificent hemicyle was host to the institute for the first four years of its operations.

Beginning in 2001, New Millennium Institute programs have been hosted in other locations on the Big Island, such as the Hamakua Ecology Center and the Jacaranda Inn, in Waimea.

Related Projects

The Institute supports, through donations, the work of The Na Koa Warriors, a native Hawaiian group whose mission is to protect sacred sites in Hawaii, such as Pu'ukohola, the temple (heiau) built by King Kamehameha the Great. The Na Koa Warriors offer educational programs, ceremony and ritual as a means of returning to and preserving the native wisdom and practices of Hawaiians.

New Millennium Institute is also a sponsor of Artesia, the Four Seasons Adventure Theatre, an outdoor amphitheatre located in Hawi on the Big Island. Here, the community is offered a place to express itself in song, dance, theatre, poetry and sacred play.

New Millennium Institute founder, Susanne Sims, has authored a spiritual satire entitled Conversations with Todd. This work will soon be made available on-line for the pleasure and enjoyment of all. It is dedicated to Terence McKenna, NMI scholar from 1996 - 2000.
